Associated Students of Eastern Washington University

The Associated Students of Eastern Washington University is a vital component within the campus community.  Twelve students are elected to their respective position – president, executive vice president, finance vice president, and nine Council positions that cover a specific departmental area.

These elected officials are charged with:

³        Representing the issues and concerns of EWU students throughout the campus community, the city of Cheney, and at the state level including such avenues as Washington Student Lobby (WSL) and in the state legislature.

³        Receiving and identifying issues, concerns, and questions from the general student body.  When a problem has been identified seeks a solution and/or a resolution in a pro-active manner with the appropriate university personnel and/or community personnel.

³        Funding of various programs on campus (e.g. including free admittance to athletic events, The Easterner, the fine arts program, intramurals, outdoor program, and student activities and events).  In addition they provide funding for many ASEWU recognized student clubs and organizations and providing funding for a variety of student services (e.g. The Focus, a child care facility, free telephones in the student union building, and usage of electric typewriters).

Letter from 1999-2000 ASEWU Executives

SOAR WITH THE ASEWU

Your ASEWU student government is ready to soar and lead Eastern’s university community into the new millennium.

The ASEWU Council has established its goals for the 1999-2000 year.

v              Our first goal is what we refer to as V.I.A. --Visibility, Interaction, and Accessibility.  As a Council, we want students to know who we are and feel comfortable about approaching us about issues on campus.  So if you don't come to us beware because we just might find YOU

v              The second goal is to work with the City of Cheney to make Cheney more student centered.  We see the need for the city to incorporate more student related entertainment and programs in Cheney and improvements toward this end need to be made.

v              Our third goal is to involve more student and faculty interaction in non-academic settings.  Eastern provides numerous events for students to learn and to have fun.  These range from guest speakers, plays, music concerts, athletic games, and activities provided by Eagle Entertainment, the Department of Student Life, and the residence hall system.  These varied events and programs present an excellent opportunity for learning outside of the classroom, which is extremely valuable.

As a University, we need to support each other and together we can ascend above area and state universities.
