W.C.C.C. is a dynamic and multi-faceted organization with the mission to provide and facilitate programs and services which effect the social and economic revitalization of the West Cental and Emerson-Garfield neighborhoods. Our programs and services focus on enhancing the quality of life of all persons living in these service areas. We work collaboratively with neighborhood organizations and residents on numerous projects such as Annual Neighbor Days Festival & Craft Fair, Coats-4-Kids, Annual Neighborhood Christmas Celebration, T.I.N.C.A.N., Youth Forums, Neighborhood Mediation Project, Neighborhood Education Team, and the West Neighborhood Coalition, to name a few.
The West Central Community Center is part of a larger strategy of the City of Spokane to address the social and community problens which exis in each of the city's three major urban low income areas. The Community Centers are one part of the Community Development housing and neighborhooh development programs which are intended to revitalize the physical, social, and civic infrastructure of these urban areas. The West Central Community Center strives to provide programs and services to assist in serving the neighborhood's social, health, recreational, educational, and cultural enrichment needs. In additon to provision of programs and services, W.C.C.C. serves as a focal point for community education on number of neighborhood issues through it's newspaper, community outreach, and public forums (see the "Programs & Services" breakdown for specific details on W.C.C.C. services).
volunteers are the hartbeat of West Central Community Center. Without the assistence of the commited volunteers we could not provide the same extend of quality of service to the community. W.C.C.C. volunteers are advocates and Goo Will Ambassodors who come in kaleidoscope of different colors, shapes, abilities, and backgrounds. The purpose of the West Central Community Center is to provide services to the people of the community in order to help them improve the quality of their lives.
The programs of the Community Center have been established for the purpose of providing a balance of services intended to fit the need of the majority of the people in the Emerson-Garfield and West Central neighborhoods. The needs of this population are defined using a variety of methods including periodic professional Needs Assessments and Analysis, Community forums, evaluation of program service data, client service surveys as wel as the general perceptions of professional providers of services to the service constituency.
The objective of the Community Center is to have a positive inpact in the lives of the people in this community through appropriate services and programs. Community Center programs have been developed in the areas of Child Care and Development, Family Counseling Services, Nutrition and Health Services, Education Services, Recreation, Cultural and Leisure Services, Special Services for the Disabled Population and youth development programs. The intent of these services is to enable the participants to improve their life skills and assist their families by providing them with informational, educational, recreational, and health services.
